The best Advent in Europe begins on Saturday, December 1, and will last till, January 6, 2019, together with the New Year’s events. The warm up starts on Thursday, November 28, while the official opening will be held on Saturday, December 1, in the afternoon.
Along with the traditional locations and with the continuation of cooperation with the Office of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Zagreb Tourist Board and its partners have also prepared new programs for numerous visitors and citizens.
Novelties include: the new location Advent in Maksimir that offers the rich variety of programs for the whole family in cooperation with the Zagreb Zoo; Advent in Tkalča that includes the artisans’ workshops as the spirit of the oldest parts of the city – the neighbouring districts of Gradec and Kaptol and the oldest street in Zagreb.
New is also Advent in the Sisters Baković Passage which will be decorated as a set of a Christmas movie while the Europa Cinema shows Christmas films for all generations.
This year cultural events are under the special spotlight and they will bring us real holiday and pre-Christmas atmosphere. During the Advent time, 8 different music festivals will be held in Zagreb: Adventfest in the Cathedral, Advent Classic Fest, Festival of Advent and Christmas songs in Zagreb, Concerts in St. Catherine’s church, Concert program of the Zagreb Soloists, Advent in St. Blaise’s church, Concerts from Zagreb Christmas Balconies and Christmas with the kids.
During December Croatian National Theatre, Croatian Music Institute and Concert Hall Vatroslav Lisinski offer rich music repertoire as well, and the occasional exhibitions will be held in Ethnographic Museum, Museum of Arts and Crafts and in the Archaeological Museum Gallery.
We would like to mention Invitation to tea where pupils from the Marija Jambrišak Pupil’s home open the doors of the courtyard of their home and invite you to have a tea with them and Advent
at Vidra that offers the Advent program from the “Novi život” troupe, the oldest drama studio of blind and visually impaired people.
Advent in Zagreb is the most important event in our capital, and last year there was an increase of 17% in arrivals and 18% in overnight stays. According to the ZTB data, in December 2017, there were 111.429 arrivals and 201.734 overnight stays, while in 2016 there were 94.573 arrivals and 169.095 overnights.
