The island of Cres – island of griffon vultures, a protected species

The island of Cres is one of the two largest islands in Croatia. It is quite narrow and 65 km long.

On the island of Cres the pebbly and sandy beaches, and the seascapes are magnificent, and they provide a beautiful view.

The most famous beach is called – Lubenice, and it is located in the village of Lubenice. The other locality worth of discovering is Osor in the south of the island, located between the islands of Cres and Lošinj.

It is the Croatian island with the richest and most varied flora and fauna. Cres is a breeding ground for the griffon vulture, a bird protected since 1986.

Fun fact: it is the only island where there is no viper.

Except beautiful beaches and clear blue sea, one of the major attractions is Lake Vrana which is one of the deepest lakes in Europe. Water sports and hiking are very popular there.
